I never built a 1/48 scale model before and I must say it was a pleasure. Lots of detail you normaly not get in 1/72 but not at the price of 1/35. The kit itself was a nobrainer, fit was good etc. The only two things that let the kit down was the horrible 76mm gun (it looks like a straw) and the 50 cal. machinegun is a bit oversimplified. So I ordered a aftermarket barrel, 50 cal. (Hauler) and for the hell of it a pe set (also Hauler) although I didn't use everything from that set.

The Sherman was finished with Tamiya acrylics, washes with oils, dust and (light) mud application with pigments.

  • Scale:
  • Tamiya
  • 35302
  • 1/35 (50 mm)

Easy to build kit. Some drawbacks are the age of the kit (not very much detail) and the figures who are clearly not from tamiya (probably Miniart), this hampers the fit of the gunner. Also the helmets look a bit odd on these figures (a little oversized i guess, or the figures a bit to skinny), the helmets are from Tamiya itself.

Painting was done using Tamiya acrylics alone, figures were painted with lifecolor paints. Washes and pigments were kept to a minimum.

Soviet T-62

Soviet T62A
  • Kit manufacturer:
  • Kit number(s)
  • Scale:
  • Tamiya
  • 35108
  • 1/35 (50 mm)

The T-62 was introduced in 1961 and replaced the T-55 as the main battle tank of the soviet forces. Production of the T-62 ran until 1975 and was followed up by the T-72 MBT. The Tamiya kit is old and not up to the standards of today but with a little bit of work it's still a nice reprensentation of a T-62. Building the kit was fun and all parts just fell together (as always with Tamiya kits).
Tamiya calls it a T-62A but i'm not sure it is an 'A' model, i'd rather think it's the T-62 Obr.1972 but i didn't figure it out because i just didn't care to do so.

Painting was done using Tamiya acrylics and Humbrol enamels for some parts, oils for the washes/weathering and Vallejo pigments.

  • Kit manufacturer:
  • Kit number(s)
  • Scale:
  • Dragon (DML)
  • 7357
  • 1/72 (25 mm)

This is the Gruppe Fehrmann Tiger from Dragons Armor Pro 1/72 scale series, alhtough I didn't build it as one from this unit. Fairly straightforward to build except for the running gear, it gave me some headaches.

Painting was done using Tamiya / Vallejo acrylics, oils for the washes/weathering and different brands of pigments.

Stürmgeschütz III Ausf. C/D Sd.Kfz. 142

  • Kit manufacturer:
  • Kit number(s)
  • Scale:
  • Dragon (DML)
  • 6009 / 6029 (figures)
  • 1/35 (50 mm)

My second stug, this time DML's Stug III ausf. C/D complimented with their stug figure set. The kit was nice to build, no problems at all. Groundword and the building were made from styrodur and the tower was made from evergreen.

Panzerjäger 1 Ausf. b 4,7cm PaK(t) (Sf)

  • Kit manufacturer:
  • Kit number(s):
  • Scale:
  • Zvezda
  • 3537
  • 1/35 (50 mm)

I guess this one is an old Italeri kit, it has the 70's written all over it and i've seen the included (terrible) figure before.

Despite lacking detail, accuracy and the horrendous exhaust cover (I left it off) the kit is easy to build and although there is a far better alternative on the market (DML) this one is cheap and therefore ideal for some experimentation.

  • Scale:
  • Tamiya, Atak (concrete armour & PE), Dragon (figure)
  • 35197 / AT35A05
  • 1/35 (50 mm)

Although the Stug is one of my favourite German vehicles, I’ve never built one.
I knew I had one somewhere lying around and after a quick search through my apartment, I dug up the Tamiya Sturmgeschütz III Ausf. G, Frühe Version. In order to spice this kit a bit up I bought the ATAK 35A05 conversion set and a Lion Roar photoetch set.

  • 1/72 (25 mm)

Hasegawa's 1/72 M5 High Speed Tractor and M2 155mm Howitzer 'Long Tom'
are simple kits to build and a bit (understatement) rough on the details.
None the less, I've had a lot of fun building and painting these two little kits
